Overview
Unit 291 is the Pine Nut Mountains hunt unit east of the Carson Valley, wrapped by Carson City, Dayton, Minden/Gardnerville and Silver Springs. It is a solid mule deer unit with good road access, a scattering of antelope on the lower benches, and one of the few Nevada blocks open to black bear by draw. Being an urban-interface unit, it carries more private land than the rural interior, so knowing the public boundaries matters.
Terrain
A north-south range rising abruptly off the valley floors. Steep, broken country in the core with Mount Siegel as the high point; elsewhere rolling hills, benches and shallow swales that hunt easier. Water is scattered and concentrates above ~7,000 ft.
Cover: Pinyon-juniper woodland over most of the range, sagebrush and bitterbrush on the lower benches, with mahogany, aspen pockets and scattered timber near the crest.
