Overview
District 535 lies in central Montana north of Roundup and south of Winnett, bounded by the Musselshell River on the south and east with the Little Snowy Mountains anchoring the northwest corner and the Big Snowies rising just beyond. It is mostly open prairie broken by coulees, ridges, and scattered pines, with a timbered island range in the Little Snowies. This is a limited-draw unit for both elk and mule deer, prized for a quality-buck opportunity, but the game and much of the access sit on private ranchland. Elk concentrate in the Little Snowies; deer scatter across the breaks and river bottoms.
Terrain
Open, rolling shortgrass prairie cut by coulees, sandstone ridges, and scattered ponderosa, rising to the timbered Little Snowy Mountains in the northwest and dropping to the Musselshell River bottoms.
Cover: Shortgrass and sagebrush prairie with wheat and hay ground; ponderosa pine and juniper on the breaks and ridges; conifer timber in the Little Snowies; cottonwood and willow along Flatwillow Creek and the Musselshell.

Access
Most of the deer and elk live on private ranchland, and access is genuinely difficult — this is a permission-first district. The Little Snowies hold some Helena-Lewis & Clark National Forest sections, there are scattered DNRC state-trust sections (open with a permit), some BLM ground north of Roundup, and a handful of ranches enroll in FWP Block Management.
